KT taps EBRD for USD200m broadband, LTE loan

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has confirmed that it is considering providing a long-term loan of up to USD200 million to Kazakhstan’s incumbent telecoms operator Kazakhtelecom (KT), in order to support the company’s ongoing investment in the expansion of its fixed broadband network, capacity and coverage in regional centres of Kazakhstan. Although the loan was approved in late March, it is still subject to final approval. The bank is required to verify any potential environmental and social impact relating to the transaction, although it does not forsee any issues
