Openreach, the network arm of British fixed line incumbent BT, is reportedly preparing to open access to its up to 80Mbps fibre-to-the-cabinet (FTTC) product this week to all communications providers offering services via the telco’s fibre platform, according to ISPreview. This development follows on from reports last month that Openreach was expecting to double the downlink speeds offered via its FTTC infrastructure in April 2012. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in March 2012 Mike Galvin, Openreach’s managing director of Network Investment, was cited as saying: ‘We said we would double fibre speeds by this spring and this is exactly what we have done
