Slovenian cellco Si.mobil, part of the Telekom Austria group, reports on its website that its EUR20 million (USD27 million) investment in its networks last year saw it expand its 3G/3.5G mobile broadband coverage to over 90% of the population, up from around 64% at the beginning of the year, claiming that this gives it the country’s largest 3G footprint. In 2012, the company says it is continuing the upgrade and expansion of its infrastructure under a similar CAPEX budget to last year, concentrating on 3G coverage in western and south-western regions. Si.Mobil has scheduled the deployment of 103 additional UMTS-900/UMTS-2100MHz 3G base stations, with 165 existing base stations to be renewed, as well as 24 new 2G base stations.
